Success Stories

I’m grateful the following clients have offered to share their coaching success stories with you. The coach/client relationship is very private and confidential; however the following clients want to share their experiences with you. My hope is that you may see yourself in their stories and if they can do it, YOU can too.

Meet Dawn:  A Business Executive in Professional Services from the Greater Kansas City Area

What prompted you to hire Sarah to be your coach?

I needed to make a change in my life and I needed help. I hired Sarah so that – to myself and those that I love – I could distinguish this attempt from past attempts which, unfortunately, ended up as a multitude of empty promises. I needed someone to help me articulate the specific change needed, ensure that I was being honest and help me to hold myself accountable. Funny, this is what I do every day in my career. How ironic!

What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?

My goal might seem simple, but it was a hurdle for me. My goal was to get out of the office at a reasonable hour to spend time with my family. Not doing so caused great tension for me and our marriage. Sarah helped me to improve my work/life integration and increased my level of self-awareness in a big way.

What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?

My day-to-day decisions started to align with my priorities. I built stronger relationships at work with those that I shared my goal with. The support of these colleagues/friends was key in creating new habits. An “ah ha” for me was that home and work are not a vs or an either or equation – it’s AND. I’m learning how to best integrate my home and my work during this season of life.

What are Sarah’s strengths as a coach?

Sarah is crystal clear in every session that this session can be whatever I need and want it to be.
Sarah is courageous and able to gently tee up hard questions in a way that inspires me to think differently. Her comfort with silence encouraged me to talk through things without the need to know the purpose or where the thoughts would lead. The beauty – Sarah’s gift – is that through the sessions and the dialogue and the inquiry and getting curious (on both of our sides), the answers that were right for me gently exposed themselves. She asks the very direct and profound questions and then nudges and guides me to find the answer within. She throws in suggestions but without judgment and not in an effort to solve. She’s there to dialogue and ask me to consider options, but the solving is completely up to me.

What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience? Would you change anything?

Sarah’s preparation (including urging me to prepare as well) was incredibly valuable to focus the dialogue. It was also very important to me to be able to do these sessions over the phone. 30 minutes for a phone call is very different than 90 minutes out of the office. Our sessions were focused, effective and energizing!

Sarah’s professionalism and consistency are world-class. Every time she would send a Coaching Prep Form, remembered exactly the action steps from the last session and always focused on me. She also handled the times I wasn’t prepared or needed to cancel with complete understanding and grace. No guilt. Her style and approach to these situations – and to life in general — simply made me resolve to get better.

She is also a master at inspiring commitments and summarizing the end of the conversation. What do we want to have happen by the next call? How will we know that happened? What are you comfortable committing to? I LOVE leaving a coaching session with a tangible TO DO list. Progress is key to developing a new habit and Sarah knows this and takes it from theory to practice in every session.

Sarah also has a wealth of tools and resources that help to chart the course of the tough stuff. I so appreciated the structure of the Fab 2015 program that I went through and continue to build on the needs and values explored there as I learn and grow in this season.

Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or Why Not?

Yes. There is nothing more important me than my family. Figuring out how to shift my thinking and then behavior to make the most of our current season/situation was priceless. Now, we’re broadening our sessions think through ways for me – at this season in my life – to lead in the areas of self, home, work and community keeping my values and needs at the forefront.

Why do you think coaching works?

I think coaching worked for me because it provided me a reliable way to get clear on priorities and hold myself accountable. This helped me to carve out time and space to think through these things. It is a forum to celebrate successes (how often do we cheer if we leave the office at 5:30 with our friends? Wonky!) – even the tiny ones – and just as importantly talk through and learn from the setbacks. Coaching is a completely open and safe place. And it is a place where it is OK to talk exclusively about yourself and who you want to be.

Anything else you would like to share?

I often find myself coaching others on various topics. However, the shoemaker’s children had no shoes. It’s an absolute gift to be given the time and space – and expend the energy – to get clear on my life’s vision, values, needs goals and to then work to align my life with those. It is not easy to incorporate the discipline needed to change old habits, but working with Sarah is a terrific first step.

Meet Peggy:  A Senior Director of Information Technology from the Greater New York Area

What prompted you to hire Sarah to be your coach?
A promotion in 2013 resulted in my working for a very abusive boss; by the time he was let go in early 2015 I was a shell of my former self.  My confidence was at an all-time low, and I found myself completely without any focus on career or personal goals.  I had spent almost two years reacting and just surviving, and was not quite sure how to move forward.  I needed to show up to work and demonstrate my skills / value with my new VP and felt completely unworthy.  It was really hard to believe that after a successful 25 year career that I could not even articulate what I brought to the table.

Around the same time I received an email from Sarah announcing the launch of her Coaching business full-time; I knew immediately that not only could I use help, yet this was a perfect opportunity to support a former female colleague as she grew her business.

What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?

There are many tangible results of my year working with Sarah; I am not afraid to speak up at work, whether to present my ideas, deliver difficult messaging, seek out assistance, or join new groups / activities.  About 3 months after I started working with Sarah I was asked to volunteer for a TEDx event at my company; I really had to push myself out of the safe cocoon I had built – and it was hard!  It turned out to be one of the best experiences for me – opened doors to meet all kinds of colleagues globally, and ignited career interests I did not know existed.  I have a new network of very action oriented people that inspire me every day with the courage, intellectual curiosity, and determination.

What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?
The nagging self-doubt has dissipated; I still have my moments, yet I am no longer afraid to make a decision and move forward.  I appreciate the person that I am; my unique skills, personality, and sense of humor.

What are Sarah’s strengths as a coach?
Sarah has an unassuming and gentle manner in which she challenges me to dig deep, evaluate my situation, feelings, results, and is able to elicit different approaches to drive different results.  Sarah asks the hard questions, coaches me through what is sometimes a tough process to get to the answer; I always feel lighter at the end of the session and have a clear path to move forward.

What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience? Would you change anything?
I have learned that by projecting and living true to my core values, I can draw all that I value into my life, both professional and personal.

Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or Why Not?
Yes!  The self-discovery process is very valuable, and it becomes a part of your routine and lasts long after your coaching session has ended.

Why do you think coaching works?
Coaching works if one is really open to undertaking the personal introspection and emotional closet cleaning required.

Meet Jeanie:  A Nurse Practitioner from Kansas City, Missouri

What prompted you to hire Sarah to be your coach?

In reading through Sarah’s website and materials I felt she would be a good fit for me. Also the opportunity to work with her on an intensive basis for 12 weeks was appealing to get things going. I had just finished graduate school and was working in a new job. I felt it was time to evaluate things with the fresh start after achieving my goal of a graduate degree.

What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?

  • Better organization of finances, daily routines, and home office
  • A chance to evaluate all areas of life and create a plan that is specific and achievable

What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?

  • More Relaxed, Grateful and Confident

What are Sarah’s strengths as a coach?

Sarah is able to see the overall picture and then help you to achieve the goals that you have. She does this by breaking things down into small achievable steps.  She is very supportive and able to make suggestions to help you to think of things differently. Sarah truly helped me to develop a path that is helping me to achieve goals personally and professionally.

What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience? Would you change anything?

It was an amazing 12 weeks that has allowed me to develop a new life plan and goals. After finishing graduate school it was time to refocus and redevelop my goals and plan for life. I feel that at the end of the 12 weeks I had achieved much more than that, and had developed a new inner focus and level of calm. I would not change anything.

Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or Why Not?

Absolutely! I feel that it was an investment in myself and gave me the chance to focus on the many positive and new opportunities that were in front of me.

Why do you think coaching works?

Coaching works because it is a focused plan that is created between the coach and the client. The life work exercises Sarah provided helped me to recognize the areas I needed to focus on the most. In our weekly sessions Sarah partnered with me and held me accountable to make the changes happen. Her follow up each week was so beneficial to helping me to be successful. Working with Sarah I was able to achieve far more than on my own, and am able to continue on with the tools and knowledge she has given me. I plan to continue to work with her to continue my success.

Meet Jennie.  An Insurance Agent from Olathe, Kansas

Jennie Darby

What prompted you to hire Sarah to be your coach?

I was feeling “stuck” unappreciated and like I wasn’t doing what I was supposed to be doing with my career.

What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?

I changed positions, started my own company and am in the process of moving toward where I really should be.

What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?

I feel better about myself and my situation.  I feel like I can really be “me”.  My prior position was not a fit for my personality style — but I thought I had to make myself fit into it.  I wasn’t being true to me!  Now I can be!

What are Sarah’s strengths as a coach?

She is a great listener!  She asks really tough questions and really makes you think.

What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience? Would you change anything?

I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go with my company and Sarah really saw through what I was saying and got to the heart of what was needed and it was truly a “light bulb” experience to realized what I thought I wanted wasn’t what I really wanted!

I wouldn’t change a thing!

Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or Why Not?

Absolutely!  Had it not been for Sarah, I would be getting more miserable each day.  This affected my family and my friends.  I am not a cynical person — but I was headed down that path!

Why do you think coaching works?

I always felt like I was a coach and I can help anyone!  But you really can’t help yourself as much as you think you can.  You can’t see through your “stuff” like someone else can!

Anything else you would like to share?

I really appreciate Sarah’s help and I am quick to tell others of how she helped me.  People are genuinely surprised when they hear I had/have a life coach.  People think I have it “all together”.  And I do; with a little help from my coach!!

Meet Becca, a systems programmer from Kansas City

What prompted you to enroll in Energize Your Life?

I had never even heard about coaching until a friend called to tell me about the Energize Your Life course. She said she felt better after her first session, so I had to try it!

What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?

We still had items in boxes from a recent move. Sarah worked with me to get a plan in place to get every room in my house organized with a timeline. She held me do my timeline too. Our garage was completely cleaned out the first weekend we started!

What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?
I learned a lot about myself. My biggest result was learning where my weaknesses are in things and how to work on those weaknesses. I always have an end-goal, but I never knew how to get to that goal. Sarah taught me how to get there.

What are Sarah’s strengths as a coach?
She held me accountable, and that produces results. She really pushed me to my limits (in a good way), and she made me answer questions that I was avoiding. Answering those questions made me progress on things I had been stumped on for a while.

What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience? Would you change anything?

The 30 minute sessions, and daily habits meant the most. Creating daily habits helped me be consistent with my weight loss and spend time with my family outside of our daily routines.

Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or Why Not?
Yes, I feel my coaching dollars were worth it. My time with Sarah resulted in me being more productive.

Why do you think coaching works?
Some things I would’ve never shared with friends, but I knew that if I didn’t share with Sarah, I would be in the same situation I was going into coaching. I also think accountability is a huge success factor. Sarah is not going to forget the commitments you’ve discussed with her, and this is a fantastic thing!

Anything else you would like to share?
I will use Sarah as a coach in the future!

Jessica
Meet Jessica, a business analyst from Hampton, Virginia

What prompted you to enroll in Create Your Vision?

I wanted to take the time and focus on myself, my life and identify things that would make me a better me.

What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?

My closets, garage and car are clutter free 🙂 I have a white board full of goals and objectives that will continue to help me stay focused. We have a dedicated day of the week for family fun day which is most rewarding.

What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?

I have removed things from my life that I always felt like I should do, not what I wanted or needed to do. I also removed things from my life that I tolerated that were draining my energy so I could focus on more meaningful things.

What are Sarah’s strengths as a coach?

Sarah is a great listener and has a very positive outlook on every situation.

What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience? Would you change anything?

Meeting Sarah, feeling great after every call and getting focused.

Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or Why Not?

Absolutely, because every dollar spent that is invested in yourself is a dollar worth spending. I feel I have a clear vision, I’m having more fun, I feel less stressed and am enjoying life.

Why do you think coaching works?

Coaching helps identify and set attainable goals. It helps bring clarity and organization to our thought process.

Sean
Meet Sean, a marketing director from Kansas City, Missouri.

What prompted you to enroll in Create Your Vision?

I wanted to spend some time focusing on me and  learning about how my actions or non-actions were shaping me and taking me in a direction away from my personal target state. I was excited about the concepts to be explored and knew that a dedicated work effort would be helpful for me in many areas of my life.

What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?

The coaching experience provided me the forum to work through some simple but important concepts. The work efforts allowed me to better focus on positive activities and spend less time or eliminate negative activities.

What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?

The coaching experience helped provide a great framework for thinking through some important “life trade offs” that needed to be made. I believe the decisions made in my day to day life have been positively influenced by the coaching experience.

What are Sarah’s strengths as a coach?

Sarah is a very knowledgeable, professional coach that is able to help ensure clients like me focus on the positive and eliminate the negative. Her communication style provides an easy forum for talking through some difficult concepts and realities in a manner that makes the process very enjoyable.

What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience? Would you change anything?

I continue to “attack the day” and have shared many of the simple but important concepts with by close friends and family. I believe the process is very rewarding and consider the full experience meaningful and would not change the fundamentals of the process.

Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or Why Not?

I absolutely believe this was a good investment. Much like a personal trainer, often it takes a professional to focus your attention in the right areas to ensure that progress is being made.

Why do you think coaching works?

If coaching did not work, every youth, collegiate, and professional athletic team in the world would simply use player-coaches and set the lineup alphabetically. Just like athletics, a coach can help you identify and strengthen fundamentals, drill components of your positive energy decision making process until they become natural to you, and provide positive encouragement to ensure maximum performance in life.

Sarah A.
Meet Sarah, a licensed therapist from Overland Park, Kansas.

What prompted you to enroll in Create Your Vision?

A recommendation from a friend. Plus, I was at a place in my life that I needed to step up and take ownership for the direction my life and my career were going.

What are the tangible results of your coaching experience?
I’m motivated and moved on several things I’d been procrastinating on like deciding to look for another job or really grow my private practice. When I decided the sense of ENERGY was great! I also started working on marketing ideas for my business I had been putting off like completing my website and developing the concept of a niche practice.

What are the intangible results of your coaching experience?

I have a greater sense of VITALITY and ENERGY! Before I started coaching with Sarah I felt like I had little energy and little to no vitality or direction.

What are Sarah’s strengths as a coach?

I like Sarah’s acceptance, style of joining and feeling like I was understood and appreciated. Sarah’s offering of time and energy to review, renew and look at my own strengths and affirmation during every session was wonderful. Sarah also has great focus and held my vision of what I really wanted and how I would feel once I was truly living my vision.

What was memorable or meaningful about your coaching experience?

The realization of myself, my inward ability to pull things together. I feel less fragmented and more integrated as I was able to bring together the important parts of who I am.

Do you feel your coaching dollars were worth it? Why or Why Not?

YES! Coach Sarah’s input, questions and thoughts she shared with me during my individual sessions were priceless. Taking time to work on myself took strength, endurance and stamina which was worth it because it brought me ENERGY And VITALITY!

Why do you think coaching works?

I think most of us don’t value these things because they take time to realize, and don’t have instant gratification since we cannot touch or feel them, yet we can if we let ourselves.  Through coaching with Sarah we worked on the important questions.   WHO am I becoming?  What do I recognize as important, valuable?   I am dealing with more of the “WHAT’, which is what I can take ownership for.   THANK YOU.
